October from the bench

As we sat down at the fly tying bench for this month, October. It’s still warm but you can feel a bit of a cool down first thing in the morning. We’ll begin to work our way further into the backcountry but we’re still working the outside bar systems adjacent to...

October outlook

This is one of my favorite months as southwest Florida transitions out of summer but is still a month or so away from the first front that suggests winter is approaching. Cooler water temperatures put game fish on the move. This combined with moderate breezes provides...

Snook on the move

With fall rapidly approaching, even though the afternoon temperatures don’t feel much different, it’s been cooling off late at night into the dawn hours. The snook have noticed and have begun making their way from the outside passes and deeper cuts of Cape Haze and...

Creek mouth schools

Already grouping up as their spawn progresses, redfish have been keying on local creek mouths taking advantage of the recent rain. Glass minnows that call these brackish nurseries home have been flushing out with the tide keeping redfish close by.  Out of Ponce Park...
Capt David with red fish

Winter Time red fishing in the Golden Isles

Winter time fly fishing red fish means big schools of fish, clear water and great fishing.  In the winter the water cools and as the plankton and algae die, the water clears.  On neap tides you can see 8 feet down.  So unusual for South Georgia flats fishing.  On good weather days it is possible to have shots at schools of 25-50 fish.  Sometimes more.  Fishing success is highly dependent on the weather in the Winter.  I am not heavily booked at this time of year.  Try to be flexible with the days you can get on the water so we can be on the water on the best weather days.
